The Chronicles of Narnia is an upcoming adaptation to be made by the production company, Netflix.  It was announced back in October 2018, after the proposed fourth movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair (film) was cancelled, that Netflix had since bought the rights to it, and were planning on making their own Narnia movies and TV series. In the same announcement, it was also revealed that "Mark Gordon [...] alongside Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber [will be] serving as executive producers for series and as producers for features."[1]

History of Development[]

  • In June, 2019 it was announced that Matthew Aldrich had been appointed as creative architect.[2]
  • As of January, 2020, Douglas Gresham said on The Call to Mastery podcast that: "I can’t tell you very much at all. We did the deal quite some months ago and I haven’t heard a word since."[3]
  • As of November, 2020, Netflix says the project is moving forward. Netflix France tweeted a list of projects that are in development, and “Narnia series and films” is included.[4]
  • In July, 2023, it was announced that Greta Gerwig had been hired to write and direct at least two Narnia films for Netflix.[5]
  • In November, 2023, it was revealed that Amy Pascal (who worked with Greta Gerwig on Little Women) would be serving as a producer alongside Mark Gordon.[6]
  • To quote What's on Netflix: "We should mention that [Ted Biaselli, network executive at Netflix] LinkedIn profile has been overhauled and no longer mentions Narnia. In addition, we don’t quite know if Matthew Aldrich remains involved in any form. None of his profiles on the likes of Mastodon or Medium mention his involvement." Though they mention that Netflix's blog post about Aldrich involvement is still live.[7]
  • In March, 2025, it was stated that pop singer Charli XCX was in talks to portray Jadis.[8]
