Pronunciation[]
Does it start with a "ch" as in "chair" or is it "Kharn"?
I can't know for certain, as I've never heard Jadis's homeworld called out by someone in real life, so I don't know for sure how it's meant to be pronounced. But in the book it's spelt C-H-A-R-N, and apparently the name might be from the phrase "Charnel House," which is a vault where corpses are kept, which makes sense as Charn was a dead world when Polly and Diggory visited it, which is probably why Lewis chose that name, and Charnel starts with ch. Plus, Charn is spelt closely to the word Charm (a word to describe magic), which again lewis might have used to name Jadis's world, and again begins with CH. Yeah; what you said makes a lot of sense. In fact after asking the question I remembered that Narnia was meant for children, so Lewis would probably not use complicated pronunciations. Movsar (talk) 12:30, April 18, 2015 (UTC)
