Philip was a Talking Horse, who served Aslan and his army during the Winter Revolution.
He was voiced by Philip Steuer in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (film).
Biography[]
Early life[]
Philip was born and lived during the Age of Winter, and, like all Narnians, had to suffer under the rule of the White Witch.
Throughout the Chronicles[]
When the Pevensies and Aslan finally came to Narnia, thus beginning the Golden Age Prophecy, he became a member of the Narnian army where he was used by Edmund as his personal steed.
When the Witch was finally defeated, Philip lived the next fifteen years of his life in Narnia, during its Golden Age, right up until the day of the hunting of the White Stag, when the Pevensies were sent back home to their own world.
He apparently remained Edmund's steed during all that time, but what became of him after that is unknown. He was apparently growing somewhat elderly by this point, showing signs of weariness towards the end of the hunt and remarking on his advancing age when Edmund expressed concern for him.
Physical appearance[]
- "I'm not as young as I once was."
- ―Philip at the hunt for the White Stag.[src]
Philip was a chestnut coloured stallion or gelding, and was known to be quite proud, as demonstrated by his disdain when Edmund referred to him as "horsey", yet he also possessed a small hint of a humour when telling Edmund his name, and again when on the hunt for the White Stag.
Personality[]
Relationships[]
Edmund Pevensie[]
Behind the scenes[]
- Philip is exclusive to the Walden film universe and was named after the producer Philip Steuer, who he was voiced by.
- Coincidentally, the name "Philip" means "Lover of Horses".
- Philip’s being ridden by Edmund during the hunt for the White Stag is contrary to statements in the books, in which talking horses are only ridden during wartime.
